    1.     A mind is a terrible thing to waste

The first time I had ever heard this fraise, was the summer of 1976 I was an inner-city youth at the time enrolled in a summer work program where I had an opportunity to work with an art teacher named West Hall who had a positive impact on me. I have always had an interest in art but up to the point of meeting Mr. Hall, I had only worked with lead pencils, coloring pens, and markers but soon that all changed  I was introduced to chalk and color pastels and quickly became fond of this medium and it was the direct result of West showing me the level of realism that could be achieved with this medium, I was very comfortable working with chalk and pastels  it felt very natural to me after implementing some of the technics he had shown me. West created some artwork for a slogan, a mind is a terrible thing to waste, what he came up with was very impactful I thought it was brilliant he made a picture with an orthographical view depicting kids inside looking upward out of the trash can, I will never forget that image it looks so realistic with the expressions of hopelessness and sorrow on the faces of the children inside the trash can. I did not ever see  West Hall again after that summer and what he did in etched in my memory as if it were yesterday.
